Game of Thrones “Oathbreaker”: Could Melisandre be on Arya’s Hit List?

Let’s rewind...

Back during season 3, episode 6, Arya meets Melisandre for the first and only time at the Riverlands. Arya had been traveling with Gendre and the two had become good friends.

But that ended when Melisandre arrives and takes Gendre against his will. He’s not happy about it and neither is Arya, who has words with Melisandre.

Melisandre gives her an odd look, the kind she does when she’s assessing something she doesn’t quite know yet, but deems it important. Melisandre grabs Arya’s chin and says…

“I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back as me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes… Eyes you’ll shut forever… We will meet again.”

Sounds a lot like a Arya hanging out with the faceless man. An Arya who has a lot of future killing to do.

Fast forward to the last episode

A blind Arya is training with Waif. Waif is hitting her hard and then this conversation occurs…

“Who are you?” - Waif
“No one” - Arya
“Who were you before you came here?” - Waif
“Arya Stark.” - Arya
“Tell me about Arya Stark’s family?” - Waif
“The father was Eddard Stark. Mother was Catelyn Stark. She had one sister, Sansa, and four brothers.” - Arya

Waif wacks Arya…

“Three brothers: Rob, Bran, Rickon and a half-brother, Jon.” - Arya corrects herself
Key: Notice that Arya had to change from Jon being her brother to being a half-brother.

Afterwards, Arya is asked about her kill list. The hound was on and then he wasn’t on it. Clearly, she had a change of heart.

Then she rattles off a couple of more names: Cersei Lannister, Gregor Clegane, Walder Frey.

“That’s a short list. That can’t be everyone you want to kill. Are you sure you’re not forgetting someone?” - Waif

So it would seem there is someone she is meant to kill, not just from her list, but from theirs. Could they have a common enemy?

What if Melisande is the other person on the list she had yet to name?

Recall Melisandre telling Arya…

“We will meet again.”

What if the next time they meet, Arya is set to kill her?

There is a hitch though, Melisandre just brought Jon Snow back from the dead. And it’s possible that Melisandre will be staying close to Jon, who she deems as the real prince (and not Stannis).

These trainings (for Arya) are about being no one with no ties and no family. Arya of the past (according to waif) was a confused girl who had changed her mind about The Hound.

Maybe, just maybe, they need to make sure Arya won’t change her mind about killing Melisandre because Melisandre saved Jon’s life.
